at the Perspective in Ocean Sciences Lecture Series
Join Biogeochemist Dr. Julia Diaz for "Phosphorus: Essential for Life, from Phytoplankton to Food," part of the Jeffrey B. Graham Perspectives on Ocean Science Lecture Series. This lecture explores the history and discovery of phosphorus, from its origins in 17th-century alchemy to its early practical uses. It explains why phosphorus is an essential element for all living organisms and how it supports growth at the base of marine and terrestrial food webs. Participants will learn how phosphorus cycles through ocean and agricultural systems, linking microscopic phytoplankton to the food supplies humans depend on.
